About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Brighton and Hove Albion secured a 2-0 victory over Brentford at the Brentford Community Stadium in their Premier League clash on Saturday. This result was somewhat expected given Brighton's recent form, entering the match with a solid run of performances. Brentford, on the other hand, struggled to find their rhythm. The match saw Brighton take control early, with Diego Gómez (GAP -1.2%) opening the scoring in the 30th minute. His goal set the tone for the visitors, who continued to press Brentford's defense. Just before halftime, Danny Welbeck (GAP +1.8%) doubled Brighton's lead, giving them a comfortable cushion going into the break. Brentford made two changes to their lineup from their previous match, bringing in Jordan Henderson and Aaron Hickey, while Michael Kayode and Yehor Yarmolyuk were left out. Brighton also made two changes, with James Milner and Mats Wieffer coming into the starting eleven, replacing Joel Veltman and Carlos Baleba. These adjustments seemed to favor Brighton, as they managed to maintain a strong defensive structure and capitalize on their chances. In terms of individual performances, Jan Paul van Hecke (GAP +3.6%) was instrumental in Brighton's defensive solidity, while Kaoru Mitoma (GAP +3.1%) provided a constant threat on the flanks. For Brentford, Caoimhín Kelleher (GAP +3.1%) was kept busy throughout the match, making several crucial saves to keep the scoreline respectable. This victory helps Brighton maintain their momentum in the league, potentially climbing the table as they continue to push for a strong finish to the season. Brentford, meanwhile, will need to regroup and address their inconsistencies if they are to improve their standing in the league. Post-match reactions highlighted Brighton's tactical discipline and clinical finishing as key factors in their win. The home team manager will likely need to reassess their approach as they look to bounce back in their next fixture.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
